Oh Christmas Tree!

I hadn't realized that was you, Cin. I'd made a huge pork roast for Christmas with Lucky and the girls. Andy was supposed to come, and he's a big eater. That was all I could afford within the timeframe available. I THOUGHT about making the baked green beans, but Lucky doesn't like green beans. She's more a fan of cauliflower and MUST have her baked sweet potato! [Heh]

My girls aren't meat eaters, and I could almost hear #2 moan when I picked up the roast at the store, but she LOVED it. #1 loved it as well. It's always nice when a plan comes together, dontcha think?

Watched 'A Christmas Story' a couple times the last few days. Definitely one of my all-time holiday favorites.

"You'll shoot yer eye out!!" still kills me!

'Scrooged' (Bill Murray) is an all-time favorite too. Was able to catch it last night.

SO had a working battery in his camera and took a few pictures of the Twin Towers Tree [now pretty much on its last legs.] I wanted #3 to see it. I can scan it and E-mail you a copy when the film is developed, Cornboy. Sorry...it has no people around it.

I ALWAYS forget something. The recycling/mulching people won't be picking up trees at the curb until the Jan 9-11 timeframe. I suspect we'll take down the tree tomorrow and hold it in the backyard until they come.

So what did you think? Did the fresh cut tree hold up better than the store bought ones? Did the aspirin help any?

My wife took our tree down yesterday and said the tree was still in pretty good shape with hardly any of the needles falling off. It had been up since December 8th. BTW, we did not use the aspirin.

The living room seems much larger and emptier now that the sequoia is gone. It kind of grew on me even though my daughter thought it was ugly.

It seems that this is the way to go with Christmas trees. The real question. Did you have more fun chopping down your own tree with your daughter and Lawnmower Dave than going to Christmas tree lot?

For sure the tree lasted longer than the store-bought numbers, Cornboy, but we do this whole tree thing so rarely that the fact of that didn't register too much. Yeah...it WAS fun to see #2 cut down the tree [maybe ESPECIALLY because it was the tree that Lawnmower Dave said no one would buy.] It was a bummer that it fell over, but that's the way life goes sometimes.

SO had NO complaints with the tree. Even grumpy [his brother] said that his artificial tree was dropping "needles". [This was on his visit the day after the tree fell over and we still couldn't vacuum up the needles lost in the fall because the floor was wet.]

I feel quite confident that I could keep the tree up for another 8 days [until the recyclers come to pick it up], but SO doesn't share that confidence. His house...spontaneous combustion...I'll go with whatever he wants. You know MY history.

It WAS fun, and I've enjoyed looking at the ornaments gathered for the last 10 years. Neither of the girls enjoyed the dried up "blow-fish" that I purchased on a trip to Myrtle Beach some years ago. "He's LOOKING at me!" I didn't get any more ornaments this year for Christmas, so maybe this was the last on that, well, until they start producing grand-kids and SO and I hide somewhere in the rain-forest.

Well I'm glad that you have had fun for this Christmas. It sounds like it was probably a bit more festive than the last few, what with the girls coming home.

You are probably right to take the tree down now. Given some of the tales you've shared, I am quite sure anything (from spontaneous combustion to an attack of termites) could happen at any moment.

I'll be anxiously awaiting the pic of your tree. Is it one of the tree standing upright?

BTW,regarding grandchildren. If and when they start popping out do not hesitate, immediately pack up and move to the rainforest. While somewhat entertaining, they (grandchildren) also remind you an awful lot of what you went through raising your kids. Personally, once I finish with the youngest I am done raising kids, even on a part time basis.

Though it is kind of amusing to laugh at your children when they start complaining about their kids' behavior, latest illness, hobby, etc., etc. I think this aspect of having grandchildren proves that there is karma in this world or at least what goes around, comes around!

More guilt yesterday, Cornboy. We gently took the tree out of the stand and laid it outside in the backyard. I looked at it out the window and thought, "I killed you, NOT to eat you, which would have at least provided nutrition for my body, but to USE you as a trinket in my home for a few weeks."

It never ends.

Hey, it's January 6th. How come I haven't seen the ubiquitous diet thread here, yet?

Or have y'all managed to break the binge-purge cycle of the holiday season?

Or . . . ?

(As for me, I didn't gain any weight. I worked double-shifts through most of the holiday season)
